How much does split system installation cost in Melbourne?
Our prices are published on this page, which is rare in this industry. Installation starts at $2,399 fully installed (inc GST) for a 2.5 kW Essential package, back-to-back on a single storey. Every size and package is in the pricing table above, and the calculator gives you an estimate for your rooms in 30 seconds — before you've spoken to anyone.
How do the payment plans work?
You pay a $1,500 deposit when you accept the quote, and the balance from around $100 a week until it's paid. For example, a 3.5 kW Trueline Care install at $3,299 works out to 18 weekly payments; larger installations simply have a larger remaining balance, and the calculator above shows the exact example for your estimate. The plan is arranged when we confirm your quote; there's no online checkout or app to wrestle with, and we'll walk you through it on the phone.
What's the difference between Essential, Trueline Care and Premium?
Essential is the complete professional install — premium branded split system, licensed installation, standard electrical connection, COES (certificate of electrical safety), 5-year workmanship warranty. Trueline Care adds your first year of the Year-1 Care Plan: full annual service & clean, priority booking, next-day response, 10% off any repairs. Premium includes everything in Trueline Care with three years of scheduled care instead of one. Same equipment and the same licensed installers in all three — the difference is how long we look after your system.
How long does an installation take?
A standard back-to-back split system install is usually done in half a day. Multi-room jobs — one unit per room — typically take a full day. We confirm the timing in your written quote, and we clean up properly before we leave.
What size split system do I need for a 20 m² bedroom?
As a rule of thumb, allow about 0.14 kW of cooling per square metre in a Melbourne home — so a 20 m² bedroom needs around 2.8 kW, and we'd fit a 3.5 kW unit rather than round down. Ceiling height, insulation and west-facing windows all nudge the answer, which is why every install gets a free measure. The calculator above sizes any room in 30 seconds.
Can you install air conditioning in a double-storey home?
Yes — double-storey installs are routine. Additional access equipment may be needed for safe installation. That's one of only four things that can add to our published prices, and the calculator shows you the honest range up front, with the exact figure confirmed at your free measure.

If your home needs longer pipework, roof access, internal routing or other additional work, we identify it during the free measure and include it in your fixed quote. Only four things can add to your price: Multi-storey access (Additional access equipment may be needed for safe installation); Existing system removal (We can decommission and remove your old air conditioner); Electrical requirements (Older homes may need a dedicated circuit or switchboard work); Non-standard pipework (Longer runs, roof access or internal routing are quoted upfront). What does the Year-1 Care Plan actually cover?
Full annual service & clean; Priority booking; Next-day response; 10% off any repairs. It's included with every Trueline Care and Premium installation for the first year — Premium extends scheduled care to three years. After that, continue for $29/month — or simply let it end. No lock-in, no surprise charges.
Do you service systems you didn't install?
Yes — all major brands, whoever installed them. Standard bookings are same-week, and care plan members get next-day priority. If a system is on its last legs we'll tell you straight, with a repair-or-replace comparison in writing.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We're ARCtick licensed for refrigerant handling and operate under True Line Electrical's Victorian electrical contractor registration (REC 38009), with public liability and professional indemnity insurance. Credentials are listed in the footer of this page.
