Split system installation cost in Melbourne: real prices

By True Line Air Conditioning · 6 min read

Try to find a split system installation price online and you’ll mostly find quote forms. The industry norm is to make you ring three companies, wait for callbacks, and host three sales visits just to learn a number. We think that’s the wrong way round — so here are our actual prices, the same ones published on our pricing page.

Real installed prices (southeast Melbourne)

All prices are fully installed, include GST, and assume a back-to-back install on a single storey with a standard electrical run — the configuration most homes need. Essential is the complete professional install; Trueline Care (our most popular) adds your first year of scheduled care; Premium extends that care to three years.

System sizeEssentialTrueline CarePremium
2.5 kW$2,399$2,899$3,499
3.5 kW$2,699$3,299$3,999
5 kW$2,999$3,599$4,499
6 kW$3,299$3,999$4,899
7.1 kW$3,699$4,399$5,499
8 kW$3,999$4,799$5,999

Every package includes a premium branded system, licensed installation, standard electrical connection, a COES (Certificate of Electrical Safety) and our 5-year workmanship warranty.

The only four things that can add to these prices

Most quotes bury the variables. We publish them. Fixed pricing is for back-to-back installs only (indoor and outdoor units on the same wall, directly opposite each other), single storey, standard electrical run.

Standard pricing is based on a back-to-back installation. If your home needs longer pipework, roof access, internal routing or other additional work, we identify it during the free measure and include it in your fixed quote. Whatever applies goes in your written fixed quote after a free measure — the price we confirm is the price you pay.

Payment plans

Every install can be paid as a $1,500 deposit with the balance at about $100 a week. A 3.5 kW Trueline Care install at $3,299, for example, works out to 18 weekly payments. No checkout apps — it’s arranged when we confirm your quote.

Why do quotes vary so much between companies?

Three honest reasons: the hardware tier (a budget no-name unit and a premium branded unit can differ by hundreds), what’s actually included (some quotes exclude the electrical work, the certificate, or any warranty beyond the statutory minimum), and how the company prices risk (companies that quote sight-unseen pad the number; companies that measure first can commit to it). When you compare quotes, compare what’s in them — not just the bottom line.
